Overview

Gudrun Janssens studied Chemistry with a specialization in environmental sciences in Ghent, Belgium. In 2000 she started working at the Public Waste Agency of Flanders. During that time, she also successfully completed her studies at the Maritime Institute of the University of Ghent. As senior policy advisor and being a Member of the Belgian delegation to the IMO, she outlined the Belgian policy on ships' waste management, waste shipments and ship recycling for over 15 years.

After having worked at the European Community of Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) as their Director Environment and Maritime Safety, she was the Head of Environmental and Technical Affairs at the Royal Belgian Shipowners Association in Antwerp. She was responsible for the follow-up of environmental and climate related shipping files, on the European and International level, such as the reduction of air emissions from shipping,  the quality of bunker fuels and its supply chain, the provision of adequate port reception facilities for ship generated waste and the safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships.

Recently Gudrun took up her current position at BIMCO, heading the new EU office in Brussels.
