The masterclass is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of ship and crew management and, in particular, the latest iterations of the main contract forms used in this industry: SHIPMAN and CREWMAN. Revised in 2024 and 2025, respectively, attendees will learn about the updates and why the various changes made to the forms were necessary.

The course includes practical case studies and interactive sessions to enhance learning and application of the concepts discussed.

How will this course help your professional development?
The SHIPMAN and CREWMAN agreements are the benchmark for ship and crew management agreements – and the industry’s contracts of choice. With new iterations of the agreements published in 2024 and 2025, respectively, this course will enable attendees to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge to use the standard forms with the necessary confidence and focus on key aspects to be particularly mindful of in contract negotiations.
Some parties prefer to use SHIPMAN even when the agreement is only used for contracting crew management services and this course will assist you in identifying which contract form to use for which purpose, how each form works and what is meant by “best endeavours”, thereby helping you to understand and explain your own risks and exposure. You will be able to discuss issues such as predelivery management services, importance of environmental clauses in a ship management context and insurance related matters with your superiors, counterpart, P&I club or legal counsel.
Course certification
Participants will be given an option of taking a final assessment (open-book test) at the end of the course, and Certificate of Achievement will be issued with a grade (distinction, merit or pass). Those not taking the assessment will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
