An artificial, tidal harbour consisting of a central channel, the Doekegat kanaal, and four basins: Beatrixhaven, Julianahaven, Emmahaven and Wilhelminahaven. Eemshaven at present is accessible for vessels with a mean operational draft up to 11,00 m. under normal HW conditions. DOEKEGATKANAAL The Doekegat kanaal has a width at the entrance of 325 m (bottom width 200 m) and a length of 2.100 m. At the end of the Doekegat kanaal a swinging basin is situated with a diameter of 500 m and a average depth of NAP - 15 m. To the east of the swinging basin the Wilhelminahaven basin is situated with a length of 1200 m, a bottom width of 275 m and a depth of NAP-15 to NAP-17 m. To the west of the Doekegat kanaal three basins are situated:  1. Julianahaven with a length of 1200 m. 2. Emmahaven with a length of 500 m. 3. Beatrixhaven length 1250 m. Between the Emmahaven and Julianahaven there is a mooring consisting of poles for mooring seagoning barges. This mooring is owned by Wagenborg. BEATRIXHAVEN Along the southern bank of the Beatrixhaven-basin a quay for handling general cargo has been constructed with a length of 1200 metres and a width of 100 - 150 metres. Design depth 10 metres. The quay is an public quay. The location between fenders 1 to 38 is in use by Wijnne en Barends stevedoring. They own some warehouses adjacent to the quay. The rest of the quay is in use for cargohandling, lay-by berth, (de)mobilisation of offshore vessel and so on. On the west side of the Beatrixhaven a heavy load quay is situated. Length of mooring facility: 220 metres. Design depth: 11.5 metres. Maximum load: 30 ton/m2. Alongside the quay it is allowed to jack-up rigs /offshore installation vessels. On the north bank of the basin there are two private ro-ro ramps, wich are used by AG Ems, operator of the ferry to Borkum. West of the ro-ro ramps  is a private floating jetty,  owned by Ems Maritime Offshore, and in use to moor windfarm support vessels. JULIANAHAVEN North bank: Length of the mooring 1100 metres. Design depth 14 metres. Between fenders 1 to 48 a public bulk quay is situated. The following companies using this part of the quay for cargohandling: BKV Nederland, Cement Sales North GMBH, Holland Malt, Eco Fuels and Orange Blue Terminals.
