A new “Shipmanagers’ Letter of Undertaking” (LoU) is now available on the BIMCO website, together with Explanatory Notes. The LoU sets out shipmanagers’ obligations to lenders financing owners’ purchase of a managed vessel.
For the purposes of this Clause:
“MLC” means the International Labour Organization (ILO) Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) and any amendment thereto or substitution thereof.
“Shipowner” shall mean the party named as “shipowner” on the Maritime Labour Certificate for the Vessel.

BIMCO has developed a standard mandate for use when the parties to a ship management contract agree to give a mandate under the EU Emission Trading System.
During its 80th session, the IMO's Marine Environmental Protection Committee introduced updated guidelines for the control and management of ships' biofouling, aimed at minimising the spread of invasive aquatic species, enhancing compliance, and safeguarding the health of the marine environment.
The IMO International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention) enters into force and all ballast water to be discharged on or after 8 September 2017 must be either D-1 or D-2 compliant.
The original guidance for compliance with Ballast Water Management (BWM) regulations needs further clarity and explanation.This update has been issued in response to hundreds of extension requests and dozens of questions received by the USCG.
LAYUPMAN is a standard contract for the laying up of ships. The owners appoint the managers to carry out the services in relation to the laying up of the ship as agents for and on behalf of the owners.
The latest edition of this contract is LAYUPMAN, issued in 2011.
