A continued downward trend in Somali piracy has prompted leading shipping organisations to reduce the geographic boundaries of the ‘High Risk Area’ (HRA) for piracy in the Indian Ocean, which will apply from 1 September 2021.

Demand
We forecast dry bulk demand to grow by 2.5-3.5% in 2024 and stabilise at between -0.5% and 0.5% in 2025. Cargo volumes are expected to grow by 0.5-1.5% in both 2024 and in 2025. We forecast that cargo volumes will grow 4-5% in 2024 and 3-4% in 2025. Volumes in head-haul trades are expected to grow slightly faster than the average.
