BIMCO SHIP PI

The BIMCO SHIP PI platform is a global shipping industry tool for defining, measuring and reporting information on operational performance

A quick introduction

BIMCO SHIP PI is more than just a reporting tool. It's a gateway to operational insights that would otherwise be unattainable.

Are you facing key issues with data reporting and benchmarking in the maritime industry? SHIP PI is here to offer a global standard in a secure environment.

Watch the concept of SHIP PI explained by Johan Conrad, SHIP PI Lead.

Performance indicators

BIMCO SHIP PI uses a unique standard comprising of 67 performance indicators (PIs) used to calculate 36 key performance indicators (KPIs) organised into 8 KPI groups to allow the most specific and accurate comparison of ships - across different types and sectors - that is currently available.

The SHIP PI System is used by shipping companies to:

  • Compare their ships' performance against the industry standard and potentially identify where efficiency improvements can be made

  • Communicate their ship operational performance, both internally and externally

  • Gain specific and accurate comparison of both their own and other users’ ships or groups of ships

  • Utilise filtering of benchmarking results in terms of: age of ships, Class, DWT, flag, ship status, ship type, etc

The data reported is secure, anonymous and aggregated, so it does not compromise commercially sensitive information.

Key functions

  • Fully transparent functions and formulas
  • Filtered internal and external benchmarking
  • Graphical overview of ship/fleet status and KPI performance
  • Easy generation of KPI and benchmarking ranking reports
  • Online platform (no download required)
  • Uses de-identified aggregated data for benchmarking
  • Performance Indicators are accumulated into KPIs
  • Provides quarterly reporting as industry recommendation

Your role with SHIP PI

Managing a ship or transporting cargo?

A ship's performance data is the property of the ship's owner but can be utilised by many stakeholders in the industry.

But without a unified data chain, effort can be wasted and crucial data slip through the cracks.

BIMCO SHIP PI is here to change that. Watch Johan Conrad demonstrate how SHIP PI connects all parties in the data chain in a secure environment.

How does it work?

The SHIP PI tool offers shipping organisations the ability to produce a visual representation of how a ship or group of ships performs during a specific time period.

It uses a unique standard of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Ship Attributes that enables users to filter information according to different type and sector of ships.

This allows users to produce ship reports and benchmark ships across different types and sectors.

KPI Groups

  • Environmental

  • Health and Safety

  • HR Management

  • Navigational Safety

  • Operational

  • Security

  • Port State Control

Pricing

SHIP PI has a standard monthly charge, regardless of how many ships or how much performance data you report on. Invoicing will normally be quarterly.
