Former BIMCO Secretary General dies

Overview

It is with great sadness that we can inform our members that Carsten Melchiors has passed away after a period of illness.

Carsten Melchiors when heading BIMCO in 2007.

Carsten Melchiors, who served as BIMCO Secretary General between 2004-2008, was a charismatic leader who did not shy away from seeking new ways and means to develop and promote BIMCO and its activities to the international shipping community.

“I had the great privilege of working closely with Carsten during his term of office and I can only say that he was an inspiring, energetic and pleasant man to work with. He thrived when he was travelling the world telling shipping executives about BIMCO and its activities,” says BIMCO Deputy Secretary General Søren Larsen.

Carsten Melchiors played an important role in transforming BIMCO into a more modern organisation mindful of its history and traditions.

VPS Bunker Alerts

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.

The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
