BIMCO dry bulk terminal vetting midway report 2017

Overview

The 2017 half-year result of the dry bulk terminal vetting is ready. New reports have been added to the database by ships after each port call.

In December 2016, BIMCO published its first detailed report on dry bulk terminal vetting that gave an overview of the quality of the facilities and services at dry bulk terminals around the world. After each port call, ships’ officers complete and submit a quick survey and the report presents the collected data in a structured and accessible format.

During the last six months, 87 reports covering 66 terminals have been uploaded on to the database. Two more terminals (Huston and Cristobal) have been added to the list of terminals that have received more than five reports. Before publishing any results on a terminal, there must be at least five reports in order to secure statistical validation and anonymity. The list of terminals with more than 5 reports is shown below.

In general, the overall performance is still satisfactory, especially regarding loading and unloading and the quality of the terminals and equipment remains good. No unusual events or observations have been reported.

BIMCO still needs ships to complete the questionnaire every time they leave a terminal so as to keep the information available up to date. The data quality of the Dry Bulk Terminal Vetting survey is directly linked to the number of reports received. Obtaining first-hand user information in this way, enables BIMCO to gather the knowledge necessary to compare the performance of terminals around the world and provide a useful service to the industry.

VPS Bunker Alerts

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.

The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
