BIMCO, along with various maritime associations and cyber security consultancy companies, has released version 5 of the Guidelines on Cyber Security On Board Ships, emphasising the need for regular updates to cyber security risk assessments.
BIMCO, in collaboration with various maritime associations, shipping companies, and cyber security consultancy companies, has released an updated version (version 5) of the Guidelines on Cyber Security On Board Ships. This revision includes new insights on cyber threat operators and their strategies. It also underscores the necessity of regularly updating the cyber security risk assessment in response to changes in networks, systems, connections, hardware, processes, etc.
This updated version has been released at a time when IACS' Unified Requirements UR E26 (pertaining to the Cyber Resilience of Ships) and UR E27 (focusing on the Cyber Resilience of On-Board Systems and Equipment) have been recently made mandatory for new ships contracted for construction from 1st July 2024 onwards. Additionally, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is gearing up to debate a unified approach to cyber security on board ships and in ports, a discussion BIMCO welcomes and supports.
