Meet Afshan Akram of the Software Maintenance Working Group

Afshan has been Chair of the Software Maintenance Working Group set up around six months ago by BIMCO and CIRM. The group met last week, and we took the opportunity to have a chat with her.

The group aims to ensure that shipboard software maintenance is carried out in a qualitative, secure, and systematic way, thereby preventing accidents such as blackouts and malfunctions.

The initiative is a reaction to the industry experiencing incidents where ships suffered complete blackouts and malfunctions of important operational technical systems because of unforeseen difficulties caused by a software maintenance.

Afshan works at MAN Energy Solutions, where she is Head of LTSA Spare Parts and Logistics Solutions. She holds an M.Sc. in Engineering and Technology Management from Aalborg University.

Fun fact: one day she was on the walking street in Copenhagen a random personality passed by - Bill Clinton.
