Pioneering eBL company leverages ETDA 2023 to adopt first ever “local law” solution

Just over a year since the UK’s Electronic Trade Documents Act (ETDA) 2023 came into force, a leading Malaysian automotive logistics company, GIGA, is leveraging this legislation to transition its business to a 100% paperless bill of lading system. The ETDA 2023 recognises electronic Bills of Lading as legally equivalent to their paper counterparts under English law. The innovative move by GIGA promises faster and more efficient supply chains, with most of their clients already opting for digital eBLs.

It is a significant milestone for electronic bills of lading as GIGA is the first company to operationally implement a “local law” eBL solution to streamline and centralise its processing of over 10,000 bills of lading annually. Working together with leading eBL solution provder, Ice Digital Trade (formerly EssDocs), GIGA’s paperless trade has been enabled by using ocean and house bills of lading that are expressly governed by English law to give legal recognition to the eBL.
