Dangerous Goods Code for Packaged Goods – See BIMCO’s summary of the latest 2024 Amendments

A summary of the more significant amendments coming out from Amendment 42-24 to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code for shipment of packaged goods at sea.

The International Maritime Organization adopted Amendment 42-24 (Amdt 42-24) to the IMDG Code at its 108th meeting of the Maritime Safety Committee in May 2024. 

BIMCO provides a summary of the more significant amendments effected by this Amdt like charcoal and data loggers, sensors, ammonium nitrate fertilizers, stowage detailed plan and vehicles powered by batteries, which can be found in our Cargo Section / IMDG Code.

Contracting governments to the SOLAS convention can voluntarily apply Amdt 42-24 in part or in whole with effect from 1 January 2025, taking into account that the Amdt will enter into mandatory force on 1 January 2026. 

Members involved in the shipment of packaged goods are to be guided accordingly.
