BIMCO to launch network for members on maritime single window
Published: 13 April 2023
Recognising the growing importance of maritime digitalisation and that exchanging data – administrative as well as business related – is a competitive factor for the shipping industry, BIMCO is establishing a network to support members on maritime digitalisation.
In 2022, the IMO's Facilitation Committee adopted amendments to the Facilitation (FAL) Convention which will make the “single window” concept for data exchange mandatory in ports around the world, marking a significant step in the acceleration of digitalisation in shipping. The amendments adopted in 2022 are expected to enter into force on 1 January 2024.
To raise the awareness and to make shipping industry prepared, BIMCO has establish a network where maritime digitalisation can be discussed in an informal forum, by aiming to the benefits and opportunities for maritime trade arising from the application of the maritime single window to electronic ship clearance processes in ports.
At BIMCO we believe that knowledge sharing between our members will assist the shipping industry to meet the mandatory requirements in terms of electronic data interchange of key documentation in respect of ship access and egress, ideally in a standardized manner through a Maritime Single Window (MSW).
We invite all members to participate and benefit from the discussions, with membership of the group a free-of-charge benefit. We encourage participation by professionals working on maritime digitalisation on a day-to-day basis, in particular on the administrative data exchange with authorities using a maritime single window, and who are willing to share ideas and expertise – independent of sector of shipping, size of company or where you are on the digitalisation journey.
All meetings of the network will be virtual and there will most likely be three or four meetings a year. Use the contact box on this page to reach out to Henriette Dybkær if you wish to join or would like more information.
