Join us for an afternoon of networking with our dynamic professional community & a keynote presentation on "Seafarers' Mental Health" by Pam Kern of Port Medical

Presentation topics:

  • How do attitudes and financial pressures define maritime mental health?
  • We will explore real stories and cases from the seafarer and stakeholder lens.
  • By identifying industry barriers, we'll discuss how seafarer mental health best practices can align with policy, even if policies aren’t there (yet).
  • We'll also discuss how to access mental health support that is effective and tailored to the unique cultural needs of seafarers with realistic and retable approaches-care without compromise.

About our presenter:

  • Pam Kern is a US licensed clinical trauma psychotherapist and maritime mental health expert. Her maritime career started in the cruise sector in 1996 and she sailed for 18 years on board ships as a Guest Relations Manager, directing a myriad issues for up to 3200 guests and crew. This led to her clinical mental health research and master’s degree in advanced clinical practice of social work Columbia University.
  • She provides unparalleled expertise from her rare combination as a mental health clinician, a former seafarer, employee assistance program (EAP) professional, and spouse of an active sea captain. She is the Director of Maritime Mental Health Services for Port Medical Management based in Houston, Texas as well as a therapist in private practice. She speaks at conferences in the US and worldwide on maritime mental health advocacy, policy and prevention and intervention practices.
